Man kills self at Delhi metro station

A man in his fifties committed suicide on Monday by jumping in front of a running metro train in Delhi, an official said.

The incident occurred at 12.12 p.m. at the Janakpuri west metro station and halted the train service on the route for nearly 15 minutes.

"We are yet to identify the person who jumped in front of the approaching train on platform number 1," Delhi metro spokesman Anuj Dayal said.

Dayal said the train from Dwarka to Indraprastha (Line-3) applied emergency brakes immediately but the train ran over the man before stopping.

"Preliminary investigations suggest that prima facie it may have been a case of suicide," he added.

Delhi Metro has reported a few cases of suicide on its stations in last couple of years.

In a previous case Annu Sharma, a young student, attempted suicide at a metro station in west Delhi in October. She, however, survived.
